Advances in breast augmentation techniques and implant materials give you more options than ever before. There are a variety of breast implants and incisional approaches for augmentation today. The best option for you will depend on a number of factors including your goals, unique situation, and personal preference.
Common breast augmentation incisions include:
- Inferior peri-areolar -- incision is made around the lower areola
- Inframammary -- incision is made in or near the fold under the breast
- Transaxillary -- incision is made through the armpit
Each of these approaches has potential advantages and disadvantages. During your initial breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Orringer will discuss a number of possible options to educate and assist you in your decision making.
In addition, an increasing number of breast implant possibilities including round and shaped, smooth and textured (rough) surface exist. Silicone gel-filled implants are most commonly used today, but saline-filled implants are also available.
The newest silicone implants to receive FDA approval, often called "gummy bear" implants, are made of a denser, more cohesive silicone gel material which maintains its shape better. In some instances, this option may potentially provide a more pleasing look, particularly among women with thinner natural tissues.
During your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills plastic surgery office, Dr. Orringer will discuss options with you and make individualized treatment recommendations based on your individual needs and aesthetic goals.
