The upper part of your face has a significant impact on the way you convey emotion to the people around you. This is particularly true of the forehead region. As part of the aging process, you may begin to experience sagging of your brows. You may find that people are frequently asking why you’re tired or angry, when, in fact, you are not.
A brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, can potentially significantly improve these signs of aging in the forehead region. You can receive individualized recommendations regarding your brow lift treatment plan by speaking with Dr. Jay Orringer in person. Please contact our Beverly Hills office to schedule a brow lift consultation.
Benefits of a Brow Lift
A brow lift can potentially provide a pleasing improvement in your upper facial appearance producing a look that is more rested and youthful. Dr. Orringer may recommend a brow lift to potentially:
- Lift heavy or droopy eyebrows and open up the eye region
- Create the appearance of a less heavy upper eyelid by lifting forehead tissue off of the eyelid.
- Reposition sagging or drooping brow line
- Reduce the appearance of forehead creases, furrows, and other signs of aging which can make you look sad, angry, or tired
- Improve the appearance of frown lines
- Rejuvenate the forehead region
Your Brow Lift Procedure
Dr. Orringer takes an individualized approach to all brow lift procedures, and he will tailor your treatment plan to your unique situation, goals, and concerns. In general, he performs three different brow lift techniques:
- Minimal incision endoscopic brow lift (this is often Dr. Orringer’s preferred brow lift technique)
- Standard brow lift
- Hairline brow lift
With a standard brow lift, the incision is either made across the top of the scalp or along the hairline. Dr. Orringer will elevate your brow and often modify the muscles in the region in order to potentially achieve a more youthful appearance.
A hairline brow lift may be done in a situation where the hairline is already high and it is desirable to avoid further elevation. On occasion, this approach can be used to actually lower the hairline slightly while still elevating the brows.
In some instances, Dr. Orringer may recommend eyelid surgery or a facelift in conjunction with your brow lift to potentially achieve enhanced results.

Brow Lift Surgery FAQs
What is recovery like after a brow lift?
Recovery varies by patient and the specific technique used. Most individuals experience mild to moderate swelling or bruising during the first week. Discomfort is typically quite manageable and often largely subsides by 5-7 days. Many patients feel comfortable returning to light daily activities within a week or two. Dr. Orringer provides detailed post-operative instructions and follows each patient's healing process closely.
Will I have visible scars after a brow lift?
Incision placement depends on the surgical approach. Whenever possible, incisions are usually positioned within the hairline or in natural forehead creases to help minimize visibility. They are also less commonly along the hairline. With time and proper care, scars usually become much less noticeable. Dr. Orringer uses meticulous techniques and offers scar care guidance after surgery.
How long do the results of a brow lift typically last?
Brow lift results are long-lasting, although the natural aging process continues. Most patients find that the elevated brow position remains stable for many years. Lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, skin care, and overall health, as well as gravity, will influence the rate of aging in the forehead region.
When will I see the final results of my brow lift?
Initial changes are visible soon after swelling begins to subside, usually within the first couple of weeks. However, full results may take several months to appear as residual swelling continues to resolve and tissues settle.
What is the difference between a brow lift and eyelid surgery?
A brow lift is designed to elevate the position of the eyebrows and improve forehead and upper orbital contour. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) addresses excess skin, puffiness, or heaviness of the upper or lower eyelids. In some cases, both procedures are performed together to provide a more complete rejuvenation of the upper face.
Are there non-surgical options for brow rejuvenation?
Non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX may provide a temporary lifting effect by relaxing certain muscles. While effective for certain patients with mild brow droop, these treatments do not reposition tissue surgically and offer limited correction. Dr. Orringer advises patients when non-surgical options may be appropriate versus when surgery may provide a more durable result. Botox can also complement a brow lift in further softening undesired wrinkles on the forehead.
How soon can I return to work after brow lift surgery?
Most patients are able to return to non-strenuous work within 7 to 10 days, depending on the extent of the procedure and individual healing. Swelling and bruising may persist for a short time, but typically improve steadily. Dr. Orringer helps patients determine the appropriate timing based on their recovery and work demands.
What’s the best age to consider a brow lift?
There is no specific age for a brow lift. Candidacy depends more on the position of the brow and changes in forehead anatomy than on a patient’s age. Some individuals seek the procedure in their 40s or 50s, while others may benefit from it earlier or later, depending on their goals and natural anatomy.
What should I do to prepare for brow lift surgery?
Before surgery, patients are advised to stop smoking, avoid certain medications and supplements that may increase bleeding, and follow all pre-operative guidelines provided by Dr. Orringer’s office.
