If you would like to achieve a more toned appearing, flatter abdomen, then you may benefit from a tummy tuck. This procedure is performed to remove loose, hanging skin, diminish excess fat from the abdominal region, and tighten abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) can potentially produce dramatic results when performed on a suitable candidate.
Dr. Orringer creates an individualized abdominoplasty treatment plan based on your cosmetic and functional concerns and goals. Depending on your unique needs, he may recommend either a full tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. Whether full or a mini tummy tuck is performed will depend on a variety of factors, including the amount of excess skin and fat and your degree of muscle laxity.
A full tummy tuck involves more skin and fat removal and often tightens the lax muscles, both above and below the umbilicus. This involves a somewhat longer lower abdominal scar as well as a scar around the umbilicus, but will typically provide greater body contouring benefits than a more limited procedure.
A mini tummy tuck involves a shorter lower abdominal scar and does not result in a scar around the umbilicus. It is performed when the loose skin, excess fat and muscle laxity primarily involve the lower abdomen. Since it only addresses a smaller section of your abdominal region, you may experience a quicker recovery period and less scarring.
Liposuction of the abdominal wall often accompanies both a full and mini abdominoplasty. This can potentially provide additional body contouring benefits, especially if you have pockets of fat in areas which have been resistant to diet and exercise efforts.
