Internationally-known Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Jay Orringer, believes in a highly customized, individualized approach to tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).
Pairing with Liposuction
While traditional tummy tuck does remove some fat, it is largely focused on skin removal. Most tummy-tuck patients, however, complain of both excess skin and fat. For this reason, Dr. Orringer usually performs a lipoabdominoplasty, which combines skin removal with fat sculpting. Liposuction removes the stubborn fat cells so that your skin can then be re-draped over your sleeker, often more athletic-appearing contours.
Tightening the Separated Abdominal Muscles
Following pregnancy and weight fluctuation, the central muscles of the abdominal wall often separate. During tummy tuck, Dr. Orringer routinely repairs the muscle separation to create a more secure abdominal wall that is more like the pre-pregnancy or weight gain appearance. This usually complements the skin removal and fat sculpting.
Mini Tummy Tuck
Not all patients who want to improve their abdominal appearance need a full abdominoplasty. If your excess skin and fat is concentrated below your navel, and there is limited muscle separation, Dr. Orringer may deem you a suitable candidate for a mini tummy tuck. However, if you also have loose skin, excess fat, and muscle separation above your belly button, you will probably achieve a better result with a full lipoabdominoplasty.
