Breast Augmentation Beverly Hills

Breast Augmentation Beverly Hills

Breast augmentation Beverly Hills procedures are done with the goal of enhancing the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. It is most often done because the woman feels that her breasts are too small for her frame or for her aesthetic ideal. After pregnancy, women often find that their breasts have lost volume, and they preferred the fullness of their breasts during pregnancy.

Breast augmentation Beverly Hills procedures involves placing an implant behind the breast or behind the pectoral muscle on the chest wall. The final result will to a large degree be determined by preoperative breast shape, including the extent of breast droop, the amount of actual breast tissue and the breast skin tone. While most women are extremely pleased with their results, understanding the procedure is one of the most important steps, which assures that you’ll be taking realistic expectations into your surgery.

The Breast Augmentation Beverly Hills Consultation

Breast Augmentation Beverly Hills surgeon, Dr. Orringer will typically spend at least an hour discussing your medical history and goals during your initial visit to our Los Angeles office, located in the heart of Beverly Hills. Your breast augmentation Beverly Hills consultation will begin with a discussion of breast implants styles and sizes. Examination will evaluate current breast size and shape, degree of droop (ptosis), apparent health of the breast tissue, skin tone, and breast and chest wall asymmetry. While a particular cup size may be desired, Dr. Orringer believes that it is most important to do a dimensional analysis in an effort to determine what size and style of implant might achieve the most aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Sizers will be used in an effort to better understand an individual’s aesthetic goals, because actual bra cup sizes vary with the bra manufacturer and bra style. While we may aim for a particular cup range in the breast augmentation procedure with breast implants of selected dimensions, we may not be striving for a certain cup size per se. We believe that every individual is unique, and the detailed breast augmentation Beverly Hills consultation addresses special goals and anatomical variations.

Surgical Considerations

The surgery is done at the state-of-the-art Surgery Center of Santa Monica. This modern, accredited facility is located two blocks north of Saint John’s Hospital, just west of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. For your breast augmentation Beverly Hills procedure, anesthesia is administered by board-certified anesthesiologists. There are a wide range of different breast implants and breast enlargement techniques available, so take some time to familiarize yourself with the procedures.

Incisions

A variety of breast augmentation incisions exist, including peri-areolar (around the lower border of the areola), axillary (from the armpit) and inframammary (in or near the fold under the breast). Deciding which incision is right for your breast enlargement procedure will be determined by your goals and Dr. Orringer’s assessment of your physical condition.

Implant Types

All breast implants have a silicone rubber shell. Filler materials include saline (salt water) and silicone gel. Saline is the safest substance known since it is a natural material found within the body. However, silicone gel implants tend to look and feel more natural since the gel is more similar in consistency to the normal breast. Particularly in the early 1990s, the question was raised about a possible link between silicone breast implants and autoimmune disorders and other systemic diseases. Most studies to date do not suggest this. Nevertheless, at this time, silicone gel implants can only be used in certain situations and only as part of an ongoing clinical study. They can be used to replace old, unsatisfactory silicone breast implants, to augment the breast in combination with breast lift, and to correct significant congenital breast deformities. They can also be used during breast reconstruction procedures following mastectomy.

Dr. Orringer is an investigator of both Mentor and Allergan silicone breast implants.

Teardrop and round implant shapes are available. While sounding ideal, teardrop implants may rotate, must be textured, and are often not as aesthetically pleasing as round implants.  Breast implants come in a variety of sizes and profiles (degree of projection off the chest wall). Size and style are individualized to the patient's body build and aesthetic desires.

You will hear of smooth and rough-surface (textured) implants. Smooth breast implants tend to move in a more natural way and wrinkle less. In some studies, however, textured implants stayed softer longer. Dr. Orringer currently prefers smooth implants for their softer feel, less wrinkling and greater mobility.

Which breast implant type is best suited for your situation will be determined during your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills office. The success of your breast augmentation Beverly Hills procedure is Dr. Orringer’s top priority, and he will work with you to achieve the best result possible.

Implant Positions

Breast implants are placed either partially under the pectoral chest muscle or in the subglandular position (directly under the breast). Subpectoral placement tends to better hide implant imperfections such as implant edge and wrinkling. Breast implants also tend to stay softer longer in the subpectoral position. In certain situations, such as with droop-prone breasts and in body builders with thick musculature, the subglandular position may be chosen.

The Procedure

During the breast augmentation Beverly Hills procedure at our Los Angeles practice, sizers (temporary implants) are typically used to assess the position and size of your breast implants. You are brought up to a sitting position during the procedure to assess the result in the more upright position. Dr. Orringer chooses to take the time to use sizers and position changes in an effort to obtain the best result possible. Time is not of the essence, but the final result is. At the completion of the procedure, light tapes will be applied over the incisions and a bra placed.

Following your initial surgical consultation at our Beverly Hills office you will also be given a customized booklet that further discusses the breast augmentation Beverly Hills procedure and provides instructions to follow before and after surgery.

Recovery

At surgery, Dr. Orringer will do nerve blocks to help control early discomfort. Postoperative pain is usually the most severe during the first three days. By the end of the first week, much of the pain has subsided and many normal activities can be resumed. Generally, full exercise activity should not be undertaken until three to four weeks after breast enlargement surgery.

What are some of the particular concerns regarding breast augmentation?

The decision to undergo breast enlargement is an important one that must be thoroughly considered. We now recognize that this decision involves a lifetime commitment to maintenance, as breast implants could require replacement multiple times over the course of an individual’s life, depending upon how that individual does with her implants. The most common reasons for replacement are hardening of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture) and implant rupture or deflation. Breast implants interfere with mammography, although to a lesser degree when placed behind the muscle. This would be a particularly important issue for a woman with a strong family history of breast cancer. With any breast surgery, there is a risk of lost sensation in the nipples and to other areas of breast skin. While a generally small risk, this may certainly be a significant issue to some women. The augmented breast may be much more aesthetically pleasing for a given individual; however, the implanted breast does not look or feel entirely natural.

Dr. Orringer wants you to feel comfortable asking any and every question that you may have at your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills office, preoperative visit or at any time that we can assist you in determining whether breast augmentation is right for you. He believes that taking sufficient time to discuss, plan, individualize and perform your procedure is time well spent.
