plastic surgeon in beverly hills, beverly hills plastic surgery, breast lift, breast augmentationBeverly Hills, CA — At Dr. Jay Orringer’s Beverly Hills plastic surgery practice, breast surgery is commonly requested by his patients. Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) indicate that breast augmentations and breast lifts have increased in demand by a combined five percent to almost 400,000 total procedures performed last year. With the recent growth in popularity of breast surgery, Dr. Orringer says the need for a useful patient guide has become even more evident. In an effort to improve the education of patients nationwide, he has outlined some recommendations for patient recovery. In debunking old myths, his suggestions can potentially help patients receive high quality care and safe results during their postsurgical treatment.

As a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, Dr. Orringer focuses on a wide range of cosmetic procedures from tummy tucks and liposuction to facial rejuvenation and BOTOX® Cosmetic. He says patients interested in a breast augmentation, breast reduction or breast lift are often apprehensive during their initial consultation regarding the length of the recovery, the post-operative pain, and not being able to move around after their procedure. However, Dr. Orringer says if they adhere to their surgeon’s guidelines and maintain a proper regimen of early ambulation and good nutrition, patients can help facilitate their recovery. He urges patients to observe a few important post-operative instructions following surgery:

Movement: “I’m a strong believer that, whether it’s a tummy tuck, breast procedure, or liposuction, people should be up and moving the night of their procedure. I like for my patients to be doing many normal activities within one week of surgery. People after breast surgery think they should limit their arm motions; however, I encourage my patients to begin to move their arms the night of surgery to avoid stiffness. Early motion of the arms, as well as regular ambulation, can help promote a sense of well-being along a path to rapid recovery.”
Diet: “I suggest that my patients eat foods that are higher in protein during the early healing phase following their procedure. If someone has a choice between a carbohydrate, fat or protein-rich meal, I prefer a patient to have protein as a calorie source. A good balanced diet throughout the healing process, however, is optimal.”
Assistance: “After surgery, it is important for patients to have the assistance of a friend or family member, both to drive them to and from the procedure, as well to assist in regular activities that might be difficult to perform alone. This individual can help patients with early ambulation, deep breathing exercises, and also to encourage healthful eating and healthy meal preparation. Patients who do not have friends or family to assist may benefit from a stay at one of the comfortable post-operative facilities geared toward plastic surgery recovery.”

Regardless of whether patients elect a breast lift or breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Orringer says the first and most essential step is to choose the right practice. He recommends consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Patients should dedicate ample time to their search in order to achieve an important level of comfort with their surgeon. Dr. Orringer adds that by first researching the practice and then following the instructions of their experienced surgeon, patients may enjoy a healthy recovery and an improved appearance.
